Caenorhabditis elegans model for Salmonellosis

Salmonella typhimurium colonization of the Caenorhabditis elegans intestine. Young adult hermaphrodite worms were fed on E. coli/GFP (top) or S. typhimurium/GFP (bottom) lawns. After 72 hours of continuous feeding on < I>S. typhimurium/GFP, the intestinal lumen is distended and full of intact bacteria. In contrast, no intact bacteria are observed when the worms are fed with E. coli/GFP.
